Food to reduce breast cancer risk

You can reduce the risk of breast cancer by frequenly including these following foods in your daily meals.

<>Broccoli

According to research studies from the University of Michigan, sulforaphane, a compound in broccoli, reduces the number of stem cells that cause breast cancer in mice. Eating broccoli may not provide enough sulforaphane to achieve the same effect, but to get the best effect you can eat them raw, steamed or fried at large quantities in a small amount of time. However, take note that boiling can destroy some substances in the compound of sulforaphane.

<>Salmon

Taking fish oil supplements for at least 10 years can help reduce the risk of breast cancer, the most common type of breast cancer. Omega-3 fats in fish oil help reduce inflammation, which contributes to breast cancer. You should add about 226g of fat fish (salmon, sardines, tuna, etc.) every week.

<>Olive oil

When researchers in Barcelona made mice with breast cancer eat a diet with its primary fat as pure olive oil (compared with corn oil), they’d discovered that the antioxidants and oleic acid of the olive oil (a single unsaturated fat) helped to stop the growth of malignant cells.

<>Celery

Scientists from the University of Missouri have discovered that this herb can actually inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Animals have been drinking apigenin, a compound found in many celeries, boosting resistance against development of cancerous tumors. The experts recommend adding a pinch of freshly chopped celery to dishes every day.

<>Coffee

Drinking approximately 340g of coffee a day can reduce the risk of developing breast cancer. The antioxidants of coffee protect the cells from damage that can lead to cancer.
